The Six Important Moments From The Flash – The Trap

*** This articles contains spoilers for the most recent episode of The Flash ***

FlashTrap

Another game-changing episode for The Flash, the kind that most shows would use as a season finale. This feels a bit like a show that didn't know it was going to get a second season, so it decided to throw everything out there… and then found out it got a second season and decided to still throw everything out there. And there are still three episodes left. So here are the important moments from the episode:

1) We start with Barry Allen, Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon inside what they call the Time Vault, the secret little room where Harrison Wells keeps his Reverse-Flash suit and his computer AI Gideon. While in this room we learn that Wells came back in time to kill Barry. We also learn from the article in the newspaper of the future that The Flash gets help from Hawkgirl, The Atom and Green Arrow… yes Green, before he disappears. The article is also written by Iris West-Allen. But we also learn that Gideon was created by Barry in the future. That is a lot of cats to let out of the bag at once.

2) They meet back at the West house with Joe West and Eddie Thawne and Barry comes up with what he calls a really bad idea. We see a flashback to when Barry was unconscious and Wells approaches Joe about helping. We see that Joe was skeptical of Wells all along, but was desperate to save Barry. Meanwhile Barry lays out his plan to help Cisco remember his dream. I'm not sure I'd want to remember a dream that I was murdered in. Caitlin designs some lucid dreaming goggles and with Wells unknowing help, comes up with a way to communicate with Cisco while he's dreaming.

3) They move to Barry's lab at the police station and Cisco enters the dream state and we watch as he relives the day that got erased by Barry's accidental time-travel. They don't explain why Cisco remembers the day, but they admit they don't know why so its okay. Cisco relays it all back to them including Wells confessing to killing Nora Allen and that his real name is Eobard Thawne. This all leads to Barry's next bad idea… setting a trap for Wells.

4) In the middle of it all, there is a fire in a high-rise building and just to add to the drama, Captain Singh's fiancee is trapped inside. The Flash arrives but there are too many people to run out individually. Wells tells him how to create a vortex and though he hesitated, Wells pushes him and encourages him until he is able to do it and puts out the fire. This leads to what is like the last civil moment between the two when the both reflect on what they have accomplished together. Barry later tells Joe that there are still moments when Wells is so nice that it shakes him to remember that Wells is responsible for both Nora's death and Henry Allen's decade of imprisonment.

5) The trap is set and Wells returns to the lab to find out that Cisco has discovered something in the bunker in relation to the night the Man In Yellow attacked. Wells heads down there and arrives standing. He moves in and says almost all the same things, except he doesn't flat out confess to killing Nora. He gets too close and Cisco jumps back into the protective barrier, but Wells walks right through. Joe, in a move to protect Cisco, fires three shots. Barry grabs two of them but hits the barrier while the third one hits and kills Wells. Except it's not Wells at all but rather Hannibal Bates / Everyman posing as Wells.

6) Wells knows they are on to him and sent Bates in his place. He then calls Barry and says they will face each other soon. Wells then goes off to kill Iris, something Barry figures out when he sees all the surveillance cameras that Wells had in the Time Vault. He races to Iris and saves her, but Wells takes Eddie as insurance. He even admits to Eddie that he is a future relative. The Flash promises to get Eddie back and as he leaves, there is a spark of electricity between he and Iris… similar to the one that they share back when Barry was in a coma. Iris realizes it and knows that Barry is The Flash.

Unless Barry there is another time-travel fix, these are things that can't be undone. The truth about Wells is known, Iris knows Barry's secret and the STAR Lab team is now without their leader. And next week… Grodd.
