Shazam Is The Next Warner Bros. DC Film To Begin Shooting

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced their next DC Comics related film on the slate, and it just happens to be Shazam.

This will NOT be the previously announced Black Adam film, and at this time, there is no involvement of Dwayne Johnson with the Shazam picture.  In fact, the Black Adam project will be a spinoff of this newly announced project.

Director David Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle) will be directing Shazam for New Line, the sister division of Warner Bros. The Hollywood Reporter says that according to an unnamed source, the project is looking to go before cameras in January or February 2018, and may be eyeing a release in 2019.

Originally, the next film up was going to be The Flash, but the problems finding the right director for Ezra Miller's solo outing as Barry Allen continue to arise. Perhaps after Justice League hits, the renewed interest in the character will compel someone to stick in the chair. Rumors still swirl that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who recently departed from Disney's Han Solo solo film, will take over The Flash.

There is also talk about a Wonder Woman sequel, and considering how well it's still doing in theaters, this seems like a no-brainer. No set word on who will take up the reigns — Patty Jenkins laid some fantastic groundwork with her presentation of Diana of Themyscira and has left some mighty big wedge heel boots to fill. There is also no apparent projected release date for a sequel at this time.

We do know that Joss Whedon is on board with Warner Bros. direct a Batgirl film, but not much else is known about the project at this time.

There will more than likely be more information about this announced during Warner Bros. SDCC presentation in Hall H on Friday, maybe with a casting announcement for Shazam.
