We Finally Have a Date for the First Trailer for Dune
Dune might be one of the anticipated movies of 2020. An adaptation of what many consider to be a literary classic done by one of the few people who seems capable of bringing such a complex and deep story to life. We got some images this summer but its time for a trailer. Or at least we're getting close to the time for a trailer anyway. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic seems far away from the December 18th release but the flu season is coming up and the winter could see a massive spike in cases. The fall and winter movie seasons are going to be interesting as to whether or not any of these major releases are actually going to get released. However, Warner Bros. is very much trying to get back on its feet this month with the release of Tenet and now it sounds like we have a date for when we're going to see the release of the first Dune trailer according to IGN.
This might be the first time a Dune trailer gets released online but those of you who are braving movie theaters are able to see it early. According to sites like IndieWire, Warner Bros. is once again going with the hype strategy of releasing trailers exclusive to theaters. This is far from the first time they've done this and from a hype angle such as last year when they released a minute-long Tenet teaser into theaters in August 2019 but the actual trailer didn't drop online until December 2019. That is a pretty significant gap. Birds of Prey is another movie that got an exclusive preview attached to It: Chapter Two but that one remained exclusive for a month. So for those of you seeing Tenet in international markets, the first Dune trailer drops on August 30th, and in the United States, if you go to the early Tenet screenings starting August 31st, you get a trailer as well. Unlike previous tries for this people who aren't going to theaters only have to wait for a little while to see the footage. That is probably a good idea considering that plenty of people aren't ready to return to theaters quite yet.
Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Issac, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellen Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and Charlotte Rampling is set to open in theaters on December 18th.
