Lost in Space Trailer: Enough Danger for the Entire Robinson Family
As we can see from the first official trailer for Netflix's upcoming Lost in Space reboot, the danger to Will Robinson (Maxwell Jenkins) is about to get very, very real when the series premieres on April 13. Written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless with Zack Estrin (Prison Break) serving as showrunner, the new series sees the Robinson family on a mission to find a new home for humanity – a mission that goes horribly wrong, forcing them to work together against threats new and old. Legendary Television, Synthesis Entertainment and Applebox are co-producing the series.
Here's your first look at Netflix's Lost in Space:
The Robinson family, part of a highly trained mission to establish a new colony in space, is unexpectedly pulled off course forcing them to crash land on a lost planet.
Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens as John Robinson; Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson; Ignacio Serricchio as Don West; Taylor Russell as Judy Robinson; Mina Sundwall as Penny Robinson; Maxwell Jenkins as Will Robinson; and Parker Posey as Dr. Smith.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Estrin talks about the show's all-ages appeal:
"This is a true family adventure in the vein of the original Jurassic Park. I don't think there's ever been another show like this on TV that has this size and scope, but also this emotion. There aren't a lot of family shows that everybody can watch for themselves. There are very few things that are not reality shows that adults and kids can enjoy together. I've shown this to my father, who's 70, and my daughters, who are 11 and 14, and they all fell in love with it for different reasons."
Estrin believes that Netflix's Lost in Space offers a little something for everyone – whether you're a fan of the original series or discovering the series for the first time:
"Fans of the original show should know we maintain the core of what was special about that experience of watching that as a child — that here's this incredible family that's off on this amazing adventure. For new fans of the show, there's a certain baggage associated with the title — 'Oh, that's that campy show from the '60s,' or, 'That's that movie from the '90s that was … what it was.' We are taking that core of an idea — the Robinson family is striving to hold together and survive in this incredible circumstance — and as much as this show is Lost in Space, it could be a shipwreck on an island. It just happens to be in space and we think it's going to have a broad appeal beyond genre fans."
