Democratic Opponent Slams WWE's Kane for Wrestling During Mayoral Campaign
WWE Superstar and Republican nominee for Knox County Mayor Kane may be focused on defeating the Bludgeon Brothers at WWE Extreme Rules later this month, but perhaps he should be watching his back for attacks from his Democratic opponent, Linda Haney. Cutting a promo to Knox News, Haney said of the Big Red Machine:
I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it. I thought it was in the past. I thought in this crucial time he'd want to be here and be with the people. Being an entertainer doesn't make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is (ready to lead).
It's possible that Haney is pushing back against Kane after news broke that the Libertarian candidate endorsed by Senator Rand Paul could be switching side, as a WWE face turn typically coincides with allegiance to the Democrats. Further illustrating how Kane has pivoted since securing the nomination, his rhetoric has veered sharply away from talking about his "sick and depraved acts" and claiming to "delight in terror, delight in pain." Rather than attempt to stuff Haney into the back of a garbage truck, as Kane did to opponent Braun Strowman last year, Kane simply responded:
After I am elected mayor, I'll be mayor. (Though) I may still do a few special things. I've done it for 23 years now and have quite a history, it'll always be part of my life. I think the question is, if I am taking it seriously, and of course I am. I wouldn't (be running) if not. I'm sure some people will say that (I'm not focused) and some others will say that's the coolest thing ever. Again, you can't make everyone happy. You just do what you can and that's it … you're always going to catch criticism no matter what you do.
Of course, if Kane wins the tag team championships at Extreme Rules, he'll be forced to wrestle more often in order to defend the belts, which would take his focus away from the race. If Haney really wants to gain an advantage, she should show up at Extreme Rules and interfere in the match, costing the Bludgeon Brothers the victory and forcing her rival to divide his time more fully between wrestling and politics.
