ROH Says WWE Blocked Their Madison Square Garden Debut

It looks like Ring of Honor won't be holding a show at Madison Square Garden in 2019 after all, as the arena has backed out of the deal, according to Ring of Honor CEO Joe Koff, after "communications from the WWE."

Koff made the accusations in an interview with dirt sheet PWInsider, saying:

You know, I'm going to tell you Mike because you are asking. I'm not going to discuss beyond this statement because I am not going to litigate this in the press. We had a deal with [Madison Square] Garden and they then told us they were backing out after communications from the WWE. We are not able to get any other dates in any kind of discussion. I'm expecting that our lawyers will be contacting all the parties involved and the best we can hope is that we can find a resolution, so we can bring the kind of energy and excitement that ROH and our partner New Japan to a bigger audience and to bigger arenas and to the fans of New York City.

When we talked about Ring of Honor's planned appearance at WWE's "home arena" last week, we pointed out WWE's long history of squashing its competition and speculated that the company would react to Ring of Honor invading its territory. It looks like that's exactly what happened here, if Koff's statement is accurate. The question now is how Ring of Honor will strike back.

Maybe they should "invade" The Garden when WWE appears their in July and brings The Undertaker along for a house show match?
