'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia': So Mac and Aquaman Walk into Paddy's Pub…
Coming off a 13th season considered by legions of fans and critics alike as one of its best, things couldn't be better for The Gang from Paddy's Pub. Renewed for Season 14, FXX's long-running sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is now tied with ABC's The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as longest-running live-action comedy series. Now that's a title Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito) would be more than happy to hang behind the bar.
Since there's still a long, pothole-strewn South Philly street ahead of us before Paddy's Pub is open for business again, The Gang at Bleeding Cool are here to help you pass the time with some Always Sunny extras over the next few months… and this time, the spotlight's on Mac's real-life alter-ego McElhenney – with some very sage advice for anyone looking to challenge the silver screen's King of Atlantis to a drinking contest.
Taking to Instagram to share an image of himself with Aquaman's Jason Momoa (at what we're assuming was an event for Apple's new streaming service, see below), McElhenney issues what sounded like a spoken-from-experience suggestion for anyone looking to go beer-for-beer with the former Game of Thrones big man:
"If you value your life, do not try to go beer for beer with this man."
Aside from the love of beer, another thing McElhenney and Momoa have in common? AppleTV+. Momoa is set to star in See, a futuristic, post-apocalyptic drama that imagines a world with no sight. McElhenney and Always Sunny co-star Charlie Day developed video game studio comedy Mythic Quest, with McElhenney set to star.

Developed by McElhenney and Howerton, and written/executive produced by McElhenney, Howerton, and Day, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was FX's first comedy hit before moving over to FXX – a fact that FX CEO John Landgraf does not take lightly when he explained at the recent Television Critics Association (TCA) why the series has been so successful for so long – even after all this time: "It was the fist successful deconstruction and reconstruction of a sitcom," praising the leads as "five really hilarious degenerates who are most active schemers" as well as the main reason for the show's success – while also acknowledging the various "social issues" that the series addressed so effectively in the past.
And it appears that there may not be any pre-season 14 "drama" regrading Howerton's involvement in the new season, revealing to The Hollywood Reporter that although work on season 14 won't officially begin until later this year, there's a very good chance we'll have more Dennis in our lives when the series returns: "We're in talks about season 14 right now. The writers room on that is going to start in a couple months." As for Howerton's Dennis being a larger part of that? "That's the plan."
During an interview to promote the second season of A.P. Bio, Howerton spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that although work on season 14 won't officially begin until later this year, there's a very good chance we'll have more Dennis in our lives when the series returns: "We're in talks about season 14 right now. The writers room on that is going to start in a couple months." As for Howerton's Dennis being a larger part of that? "That's the plan."
