Krysten Ritter to Make Directorial Debut with Marvel's Jessica Jones Season 3
Season 2 of Marvel's Jessica Jones was unique in that all 13 episodes were made by female directors. We don't know if that will be the case again for season 3, but Deadline is reporting that one of the people making their directorial debut during the season is series star Krysten Ritter. The third season has begun filming in New York City with series creator Michelle Rosenberg back once again as showrunner.
Ritter said of getting the chance to direct:
I am beyond thrilled to make my directorial debut on Marvel's Jessica Jones. The entire crew and cast has become family to me and I'm so appreciative of the opportunity to work with our incredible team in this new way. I am so grateful that Melissa Rosenberg, Jeph Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix entrusted me to take the reins.
Season 2 of the series debuted in March of this year and followed Jessica as she was trying to put her life back together after killing Kilgrave, the man who tormented her for years. A new case leads her down a path that explorers her own path and how she ended up with her powers. Return for season 3 with Ritter are Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse. There are no plot details as of yet for the new season, but the show may need to address Trish's potential abilities, Hogarth's illness, and the fact that Malcolm is now working for a rival P.I. firm.
Ritter first appeared as Jessica Jones when season 1 debuted in 2015, then appeared in Marvel's The Defenders teaming up with Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Daredevil (Charlie Cox). As for when we might see the third season, the second season of Marvel's Luke Cage just dropped and a third season of Marvel's Daredevil and second seasons of Marvel's Iron Fist and Marvel's The Punisher appear to be ahead of her on the schedule. I wouldn't expect to see it before summer of 2019 at the earliest.
