New Amsterdam hit its stride early on and quickly became NBC's new hit medical drama. Here's a quick recap of where things are at heading into the midseason premiere 'Six or Seven Seconds':
The mid-season finale left fans hanging as Max's (Ryan Eggold) life was on the line. He made the bold decision not to pursue a vigorous chemo regime, opting to join a medical trial instead. Just when it seems like there is hope, he suddenly loses consciousness and we're left wondering – what kind of miracle will save Max?
NEW AMSTERDAM season 1, episode 10 'Six or Seven Seconds': As Max (Ryan Eggold) fights for his life, New Amsterdam is in full swing with a pertinent heart surgery that is not covered by insurance and a potential nurses walk out. As the team feels Max's absence and the doctors find out that they may have to treat one of their own, Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) must finally come clean about Max's condition.
Also starring Janet Montgomery as Dr. Lauren Bloom, Tyler Labine as Dr. Iggy Frome, Anupam Kher as Dr. Vijay Kapoor and Jocko Sims as Dr. Floyd Reynolds. Guest starring Ron Rifkin as Dean Fulton, Lisa O'Hare as Georgia Goodwin, Zabryna Guevara as Dora, Alejandro Hernandez as Casey, Sendhil Ramamurthy as Dr. Akash Panthaki, and Dierdre Friel as Ella.
Dr. Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) has been Max's confidant and supporter throughout these troubling times. She's the one who encouraged him to be honest with his wife, Georgia (Lisa O'Hare). She also went out on a limb getting him approved for the trial treatment. Sharpe pulls through for Max once again, when Georgia reaches out to her for life-saving assistance.
New Amsterdam knows how to keep viewers on the edge of their seats! Max has a clogged throat, but I nearly forgot to breathe during that clip. Yikes!
The following clip gives us a glimpse of what's happening with the other doctors while Max is mysterious and uncharacteristically MIA.
Dr. Bloom (Janet Montgomery) walks a fine line. She overextends herself by moonlighting at another hospital, takes uppers to work overtime and slips up more and more in the ER. How much longer will Casey cover for her?
Let's see if these photos offer any clues…
Well, it looks like Dr. Sharpe's flirtation with Dr. Panthaki (Sendhil Ramamurthy) continues. I think they'd be good for each other and I am curious to see where their budding relationship will go. I also love Iggy (Tyler Labine) and Vijay's (Anupam Kher) rapport. They are always fun to watch.
As for Bloom, it looks like some serious stuff goes down. Is she in trouble?
We'll find out on Tuesday when New Amsterdam returns to NBC at 10 p.m. ET.
