Reviewing March's Loot Crate: Covert – You Win Some You Lose Some

It's always a happy day when a Loot Crate shows up on your doorstep! This month's Loot Crate theme was Covert, and I'm here to spoil all of the contents for you.

Team Loot Crate wrote about their spy oriented theme by saying,

If you're reading this message, Agent 1337, your COVERT status has been compromised and we cannot send backup. However, we were able to get this Loot Crate to you before our contact line went dark. Enclosed you will find all the tools necessary to get back to HQ with not only your life, but with valuable intel intact, as well.

Now, don't be too judgmental…but I am not a spy movie person. I can appreciate the idea of them, but for the most part I'm clueless. However, I would imagine that the contents of this month's crate would satisfy the spy movie lover. I will say that I was very impressed by the essays included in the booklet, Silver Screen Spies by Josiah Motley in which he does a round up of the most well known spy movies. It was helpful for me to read. There was also an essay entitled, Metal Gear Through The Years, by Candice Shane. Unfortunately, I didn't have much interest in that one, but purely because of the content. The writing was all good.

So here are the contents of March's Loot Crate:

Exclusive Bond: This Is Stirred T-Shirt (Loot Crate Labs)

Exclusive Field Agent Blink Time Wrist Watch (50 Fifty Gifts)

Spy Mad Libs (Penguin Books)

Exclusive Replica Agents of Shield Lanyard (EFX Collectibles)

Exclusive Paracord Survival Bracelet (Loot Crate Labs)

Exclusive Orphan Black Comic Book (IDW Comics)

Exclusive Special Agent Dossier Notebook 2-Pack (Field Notes)

IMG_9351So here's the thing. I'm a lover of all geeky things, and if you've kept track of my column The Geek Shopping Ninja Strikes, you probably know that already. Over the past three months I've been going back and forth about how I feel about this whole Loot Crate thing, and I definitely have mixed feelings. It's really a matter of giving your money and hoping you get something that you like. So out of this box, I can appreciate the t-shirt, because it's adorable, the Spy Mad Libs, because that's super fun, the comic, because obviously, and the notebooks. The other stuff I will probably end up giving away to friends, and that is how I've felt about a few things over the course of my 3-month subscription. How does everyone in the Bleeding Cool universe feel about Loot Crate? Do you think it's worth the membership or do you prefer to live vicariously through these types of reviews?
