'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Gets Delayed Again
Looks like Pacific Rim fans are going to have to wait a little longer for Pacific Rim: Uprising. According to Variety Legendary and Universal have delayed the movie yet again this time pushing the release date from February 23 to March 23rd.
Pacific Rim was a 2013 action movie starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and Idris Elba that was a modest box office success. A movie that felt very international in a way that few movies tend to without being pandering it explored a world facing extinction from giant monsters and decide to fight back with giant robots. A sequel was announced in 2014 with a release date of April 7, 2017 and August 4, 2017 until they decided to put the picture on hold in 2015.
The movie came roaring back though they did lose director Guillermo del Toro in the process. This new movie stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona, and Charlie Day. It will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight.
This is a smart move on the part of Legendary and Universal because the movie was originally going to have to go up against Black Panther's second week and considering the buzz for that movie it would be a shame to see Pacific Rim: Uprising buried when it worked so hard to become a reality.
Pacific Rim: Uprising, directed by Steven S. DeKnight, stars John Boyega, Tian Jing, Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman. It will be released March 23, 2018.
