Into the Badlands' Madeleine Mantock is trading the martial arts for the more mystical kind, set to join the CW's Charmed reboot from Jane the Virgin creator/showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman. Currently in the pilot stage, Urman is set to executive produce alongside Ben Silverman; writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin; and pilot director Brad Silberling.

Mantock's Macy is described as a practical, driven, and brilliant geneticist who has her world blown open when she discovers that the supernatural world is all too real. She will be joining a cast that includes Sarah Jeffery (Shades of Blue) as Madison, college freshman and youngest of three magical sisters; Melonie Diaz (The Breaks) as older sister Mel; Ser'Darius Blain (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Macy's boyfriend Galvin; and Rupert Evans (The Man in the High Castle) as Harry, a college professor and "whitelighter."

Here's the CW's  pilot description:

"This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters – Macy (Mantock), Mel (Diaz) and Madison (Jeffery) — in a college town who, after the tragic death of their mother, are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy."

Since the show ended its run in 2006, there have been two attempts to resurrect Charmed as a series. Prior to the 2013-2014 development season, the CW commissioned a reboot from a different writing-producing team but the effort never went beyond the script stage. As recently as last year, the CW ordered a different Charmed pilot from the current creative team; with this one set in the mid-'70s and highlighting three new witches. With Urman's work on Jane the Virgin keeping her busy, the CW chose to roll over the pilot to this season and set the project in modern times.

Created by Constance M. Burge, the original Charmed aired on the WB from 1998-2006. The highly-rated and popular series about a trio of sisters/good witches starred Holly Marie CombsShannen Doherty and Alyssa MilanoRose McGowan joined the cast with season 3, replacing the departing Doherty.
