Philadelphia Eagles Cut New Cornerback After Sunday Morning Incident

EaglesThe Philadelphia Eagles have cut newly acquired cornerback Daryl Worley after he was arrested Sunday morning on DUI, disorderly conduct, and weapons charges.

On Sunday, April 15th at around 6 a.m., Worley was reportedly found passed out in his car blocking a highway just outside of the team's practice facilities. He allegedly become combative with authorities, leading police to use tasers to subdue him. He was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, and a violation of the uniform firearms code, as there was a gun at the scene.

Worley, 23, played the last two seasons as a cornerback for the Carolina Panthers, but was recently traded to the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for wide receiver Torrey Smith. This was a move home for the third round draft pick, having grown up in Philadelphia before going to college in West Virginia. The trade became official on March 14th… and now, one month later, he has been released by the Eagles.

Worley was one of two rookies brought into Carolina in 2016 to compete for the cornerback job along with James Bradberry. But the fifth game of the season both Bradberry and Worley were starting. In his time with the Panthers he started 25 of 31 games and had 152 tackles, two sacks, 19 pass deflections, and three interceptions. The offseason trade was a bit surprising to Panther fans, expecting the Bradberry/Worley team to continue in 2018.

On Sunday morning, the Eagles confirmed the arrest and said they were looking into the incident. They have not made an official statement since the release.
