It's "Morph"ing Time For "Magic: The Gathering"

During GenCon 2019 this past weekend, Wizards of the Coast unveiled their newest Commander deck themes for Magic: The Gathering. What's more, they revealed that on each day from August 5th-8th, they are revealing a new decklist. The themes areagicorph, Madness, Populate, and Flashback, themes that are very popular for many players.

Today, Wizards revealed the Morph decklist's contents, with help from Magic content creators (something they'll be doing each day this spoiler season). As such, we at Bleeding Cool will be discussing what made the cut for the preconstructed deck, and what additions are well suited for the theme. The Faceless Menace decklist will be added when we get it in full, but for the time being, the most recent spoilers will be the topic of this article.

Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer

Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer is the face (or is that faceless?) commander of the Faceless Menace deck. This card provides value for which to cast your Morph creatures, and derives value from doing the very same. Kadena was spoiled during GenCon's primary Commander 2019 panel.

Today, however, the other two commanders of the Faceless Menace deck were spoiled. While they have little to do to interact with Morph, they are certainly formidable in their own ways.

Volrath, the Shapestealer

Volrath, the Shapestealer is a commander who works well with a counter-strategy, in that he can turn into any creature with a counter on it. As a seven-power creature for only five mana, Volrath is sure to be a powerful and popular commander option in Magic games to come.

Rayami, First of the Fallen

Rayami, First of the Fallen is another interesting and unique choice for a commander, featured in Faceless Menace. Rayami is the card the first green Vampire creature in all of Magic (besides creatures with Changeling). Beyond that, Rayami can be a viable option for strategies that rely on their commander being buffed to the ends of defeating opponents with large chunks of combat damage.

Notable Magic Reprints

A few reprints were mentioned already by Wizards and their cadre of Magic content creators, among them Seedborn Muse, Den Protector, and Vraska the Unseen, popular cards for the Commander format in their own right.

Magic: the Gathering – Commander 2019 will be released in English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russian, and is slated to hit shelves on August 23rd.
