A European Retailer May Have Leaked The PS5's Price
Yet another round of potential leaks this week, this time involving the PS5 as a European retailer may have inadvertently revealed the price. Sony has kept many of the details about their next big console under wraps waiting to reveal it themselves when they're ready. Hell, the image you see in this article isn't even confirmed, but it's the one everyone's using because all of gaming journalism is so desperate to get anything newsworthy on it. So, of course, people freaked out when this listing for the PS5 showed up on the Slovakian retail website Pro Gaming Shop for $500.
A $500 price tag, while serving as a major chomp out of your bank account, is pretty on-par with Sony's previous ridiculous pricing. If you recall, the PS3 sold for $600, which SIE's boss admitted was a mistake, which caused them to lower the PS4 down to $400 when it launched. Seeing an increase to $500 doesn't seem that far fetched if this is truly the retail price for the PS5. But there's still a lot of time between now and the 2020 holiday season. If public opinion scorns it, it might actually get dropped. Then again, we have no clue what Microsoft will charge for their next line of Xbox consoles.
