'Baby Driver' Reviewed: An Awesome Ride Featuring A Killer Soundtrack And Memorable Cast

'Baby Driver' Reviewed: An Awesome Ride Featuring A Killer Soundtrack And Memorable CastBaby Driver is going to be one of the best movies of the year with a great cast, a fantastic director and a soundtrack that elevates the entire production.

Director: Edgar Wright
Summary: After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

It's hard to go wrong when it comes to Edgar Wright movies but Baby Driver takes it to a whole new level. The cast already made this movie look fantastic, but aside from that what we get is a very funny and extremely brutal little crime movie that's working on a level so much higher than anything else we've seen recently that it's surprising how effortless Wright makes it look. The thing that elevates what was already a good movie into something brilliant is the soundtrack. This is a movie with a soundtrack that is truly interwoven into the production itself. Wright has said that he sent the soundtrack to the various cast members with notes when to start each song. From the way the people in the cast move around to the little dances some of them do, it's obvious it's totally connected to the soundtrack.

This is helped by having a bunch of truly fantastic characters played by a bunch of top tier actors. Ansel Elgort might not be known for much but his keen sense of comic timing here is perfect, and he manages to capture the essence of a badass who is in way over his head perfectly. He's matched by some greats including Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, and Jamie Foxx. Eiza González, who isn't known for much aside from her amazing turn on the From Dusk Till Dawn show, kicks the door down with a star making performance. All of the characters in this movie are fantastic and all of them are fascinating to watch. This is a movie that lives and dies by group dynamics.

'Baby Driver' Reviewed: An Awesome Ride Featuring A Killer Soundtrack And Memorable CastThe writing is also stellar. It's a deceptively simple story but Wright has characterized everyone so well that it feels new and fresh. There isn't much here that is unique as far as story but the way it is presented is so good that it doesn't really matter. All that matters is that everything works like gangbusters. The trailers have also given away very little of the plot. The main chases that we've seen mostly take place in the first act while the rest of the movie goes completely off the rails by the end. That type of change might not be for everyone but the movie does feel like it gets there by the end. It knows when to slow down and focus on the characters and when to have another over the top racing scene.

Baby Driver is one of the best movies of the year. The soundtrack and characters amplify a great story to near brilliance. It's a ton of fun that will leave you on the edge of your seat craving more adventures with this gang; don't miss this one.
