A Comic Show – Batman, Spider-Man, And Sex Criminals!
Aaron Haaland of A Comic Shop in Orlando, Florida, writes:
Hey Fandom, it's me, Aaron, with a stack of New Comics Now! I have a stack of my favorite DC, Marvel, and creator owned comics that I want to talk about. Batman, Spider-Man, Sex Criminals, and more!
First up, Batman #30 was where this "Zero Year" story turned the corner. It's the first part of the final act, and we know exactly what Zero Year is thanks to Riddler. I can't wait to see Snyder take on a modern Riddler story. Bruce's PTSD starts off the books, and his relationship with Jim Gordan solidifies here. It was pretty cool reading the Gordan/Bats dynamic here in juxtaposition to their interchange in Batman Eternal #2. This weekly is shaping up to be a great detective case with returning villians, allies, and unexpected guests. Also, Sinestro #1 by Cullen Bunn was exactly what those us missing him since exit at the end of Geoff Johns' run wanted. This first issue is loaded with what he's been doing, what his Yellow Lanterns have been up to, his daughter's whereabouts, and his new mission. If you were a fan of John's Sinestro, you'll be pleased.
Over at Marvel, Superior Spider-Man ended in an epic crescendo that I don't spoil. I'm totally ready for the new amazing, 2099, and Spider-verse! Mark Waid's Hulk #1 gives us a dumb Banner. Deadpool vs Carnage #2 was crazier than the first. If you like either character, you'll love this. Joshua Fialkov's Ultimate FF #1 reminded me what I liked so much about him from Tumor and Echoes, he's unpredictable while being smart and fun.
Sex Criminals volume one is here, and it's another $9.99 Image steal! This was one of last year's best reviewed books, and personal favorite of mine, and recommended for anyone over 18! Basically is about a young couple who can stop time when they have sex…oh, and they also rob banks. Stray Bullets: Killers #2 showed us again that you don't really need crime to have death and ruined lives.
I hope you find something this week to make you fall in love with comics all over again!
