In the Twilight of the Superheroes crossover pitch that DC Comics bought from Alan Moore but never published (and I will continue reminding them of that until they do), Aquaman had retired from the Justice League, as his son, Aqualad, stepped up to become the new Aquaman.

In today's Aquaman Annual, we see a similar scenario on the way to becoming reality.
