The Future of Aquaman Owes a Lot to Alan Moore [Aquaman Annual #1 Spoilers]

In the Twilight of the Superheroes crossover pitch that DC Comics bought from Alan Moore but never published (and I will continue reminding them of that until they do), Aquaman had retired from the Justice League, as his son, Aqualad, stepped up to become the new Aquaman.

In today's Aquaman Annual, we see a similar scenario on the way to becoming reality.

Could this be a foothold on such a story? Well no, it couldn't. And the reason? Something Alan Moore invented for the DC Universe that they did use. And Aquaman eventually finds am expression of inside his world…

That's right, folks — a submerged Black Mercy doing what Black Mercies do best. You know, I was half expecting one at the end of the Batman Annual #2 out today — but sadly not.
