Briony Hatch, The Sister Of All Graphic Novels, To Be Read To Neil Gaiman

I noted the other day how the latest episode of New Tricks used a number of comic book creator names. But who did "Skinner" refer to?

Well, could be either of these two…

skinner

Briony Hatch is an upcoming graphic novel by sisters Penelope and Ginny Skinner. Penelope Skinner is the playwright behind Fucked and The Village Bike, as well as a writer for Channel 4's Fresh Meat. Ginny Skinner, the book's artist, is also writing her own graphic novel White Stag. They have a Channel 4 series in development, The Golden Hill, they self-published a book The Art Room together three years ago, but Briony Hatch will be published by Limehouse Books next month.

And tomorrow at the Edinburgh Book Festival, the sisters will be reading from their book for the Literary Death Match, with Neil Gaiman on the judging panel. And he knows a lot about Death…

LDM Edinburgh Ep 7 Preview

Here's the bumf and a few preview pages…

Briony Hatch hates reality. She prefers the fantasy world of her favourite novels: The Starling Black Adventures, in which ghosts are real and you can cast magic spells to defeat your enemies. In her real life, Briony's parents are getting divorced and her school friends are preoccupied by losing weight and shagging boys. Her mother wants her to grow up, get her head out of those books and pack – they're leaving Dad and moving into a bungalow the other side of town. Worst of all, Briony has almost finished the last ever Starling Black novel; life will soon have no meaning at all.

But Briony is about to learn that fantasy and reality aren't always so easy to distinguish, and life doesn't have to lose its magic just because you're growing up . . .
