"Comics Can Use Some Cute" Gail Simone Defends The Girly Books

Gail Simone talked girly books on Twitter yesterday, and came to the defense of some books that are getting harsh feedback. Hellcat, Squirrel Girl, and Starfire were among a few that were mentioned. She conversed with a few people on Twitter and spoke positively of what the books are doing for comic book audiences.

I found this particular exchange about Squirrel Girl to be interesting.

So what's ticking reviewers off? I've surely had my opinions about the transformation Batgirl has gone through since the new creative team took over. However, I feel that's mostly because it was a drastic change. Most of the books Simone mentions below have had a girly nature since birth and can be quite enjoyable. As a reviewer of many comics, I will say if I truly feel an overwhelming amount of negative emotion I will think twice about what I write. There's a major difference between expressing that something bothered you, and trashing a book. No matter what we all think, it's important to acknowledge the amount of work that goes into putting these books together. Cute girly books open up comics to an audience that will help the industry grow.

With all that said, be sure to read Simone's tweets below. She brings up a lot of good points.
