Divinity III: Stalinverse Shows The Next Step In Soviet World Domination
It was announced back in May, but now we have our first look at the Valiant series Divinity III: Stalinverse by Matt Kindt and Trevor Hairsine. This has been a very unique and thought provoking series, looking at the world through a different set of eyes than most comics do. I remember seeing the ads for the first series and the concept of what if a man became a god and he was a communist. For readers born in the 90s, that probably doesn't have the same effect on older readers who grew up with nuclear drills in school… never quite figured out how getting under my desk was going to prevent radiation fallout from hitting me… The series hit on every good science fiction beat and made readers think.
When the second series debuted, it brought back a second of the cosmonauts and created a conflict between the two. Abram Adams, the first to return, was communist but he had already been questioning certain aspects of his life and had fallen in love even though he was ordered not to. His return to discover his old life gone kept him in check in a way. When Miska, the female co-pilot returns, she never had a secret family or doubts about her communist beliefs. Her goal is to re-establish the dominance of the Soviet Union. Again, as good sci-fi is supposed to, it made the readers think about ideology and humanity.
This third story arc beginning in December carries that story to the next logical step, as Miska has reshapped the world. The Soviet Union now rules across continents and governs with the powers of gods… and like any time someone is on top, someone else wants to tear them down.
Here are some interior pages from the first issue along with covers by Jelena Kevic-Djurdjevic (DIVINITY), Tom Muller (Zero), Jeffrey Veregge (Red Wolf), Greg Smallwood (Moon Knight), and Adam Gorham (The Violent).
