Geek And Sundry – Leveling Up Panel
Bex Cook and Dan Oakley write for Bleeding Cool:
The Geek and Sundry panel was, very much like the YouTube channel itself, a fun affair in which you immediately felt like family. Everything about the Channel and the people behind it make you feel welcome and it's like they are really trying to create a community. The panel was moderated by Sheri Bryant (co-creator of the channel) and comprised Geek and Sundry figureheads Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton, along with Amy Berg (Eureka, Leverage), Adam de la Peña (Code Monkeys), and Geek and Sundry Vloggers Amy Dallen and Sachie.
All of the panel spoke passionately about their love for their particular area, something that really shines through in the shows they create, be it Wil Wheaton's obvious lifelong love of gaming or Amy Dalton's clear passion for comics. I think it is this broad base of talent and interests that has really helped this channel get off to such a great start over the last year or so and has enabled them to even launch its own sister vlogging channel.
The bulk of the panel was dedicated to announcements around new shows coming soon to the channel. These included:
A Magic the Gathering show hosted by Sean Plot, Day[9] of, amongst other things competitive Starcraft fame, no real information was presented about this.
Caper – described by Amy Berg as a web series mixing live action and motion comics about a group of superheroes who are forced to turn to crime in order to supplement their non-existent income.
Outlands – a 16-bit style animated show from Adam de la Peña about a team in space initially sent out to lay waste to planets in order to allow the construction of more supermarkets, but who end up lost, captain-less and wandering through space. Set to debut on the 6th of August.
Wil Wheaton spoke briefly about the upcoming second half of the second season of Tabletop and the overwhelming response they have had to the show and the run away success of this years International Tabletop day. He also revealed that he will actually be winning a game this season, though he kept the suspense alive by not telling us which one.
The final new show was introduced through a small video clip of Bryan Singer, as the show, Spooked, is being co-produced by his company Bad Hat Harry Productions. The new show will be six 22 minute episodes and from the very brief teaser shown would seem to be a horror but with a comedy twist.
