James Tynion IV On Anarky Becoming Spoiler's New Tim Drake

Detective Comics #963 hits shelves today and it starts a storyline that writer James Tynion IV has wanted to do for a while. It brings back Lonnie Machin, AKA Anarky, one of the writer's favorite characters from the '90s. Tynion describes Anarky as doing things for the right reasons but doing them in the wrong ways.

He hooks up with Stephanie Brown, AKA Spoiler, who has left Batman's team and is trying to remember how to be a hero. She sees the good she can do, but also sees how people can be hurt along the way. Tynion is excited to have these character work off of each other and have Machin become Brown's new Tim Drake… in a twisted sort of way.

James Tynion IV

Anarky has been busy building a secret utopia under Gotham for those who have lost their homes because of Batman fighting his villains. He is drawn to her because she is working outside of the Bat now and he wants to provide her a new way of fighting crime in Gotham. This two-parter will massively destabilize things leading into the return of Tim Drake and the huge Batman story coming later this year.

The story focuses on Spoiler and how Batman wants to bring her back into the fold, but it also focuses on Clayface who has become the heart of the series for Tynion.
