London Film & Comic Con – On the Same Weekend As San Diego Comic-Con 2020

Showmasters Events have unveiled the dates that they'll be taking over the Olympia in London for next Summer's London Film & Comic Con – and anybody that needs to pick and choose between a weekend in a sweltering greenhouse in Hammersmith or in a bayside bar beside the sunny Californian coast is going to be in a bit of a quandary as they've only gone and taken up the same weekend as San Diego Comic-Con.

From Friday 24th to Sunday 26th July 2020, LFCC will attract… whoever's left, we guess, as studios, publishers and agents will pick and choose who to send to which convention. And seeing as the world's eyes will be landed firmly on that pop culture monster that is SDCC that weekend, it's safe to say the majority will be ending up going there.

This will also impact the ever-growing efforts of Comic Zone organizer Tony Lee to develop LFCC as a destination for comics fans – in recent years, he has worked wonders to bring international talent to the show but this will severely restrict his options as to who to invite. You'll still get a fine selection of UK comics talent, of course, not wanting to make the arduous and expensive trip over to the West Coast, but it's the talent heading in the other direction that's going to take a hit.

Tony has confirmed that Showmasters can't move their dates like they have done in the past, as the Olympia venue is booked up for neighbouring dates. Fans of the London show are comforting themselves with the thought that LFCC doesn't traditionally bother itself with breaking news and will still attract legacy talent. Fingers crossed that the LFCC team can draw a line-up worthy of the 100,000 attendance that the show has attracted in the past. So, convention addicts, pop culture fans and comic aficionados: next year you have to make the choice: a cold (mind-numbingly expensive) one in the Olympia bar or a cool mojito in the Rockin' Baja? The decision is yours!
