Marvel Comics Removes James Gunn From Cover Of Silver Surfer Omnibus

Here's the back cover for the Silver Surfer Omnibus by Dan Slott and Mike Allred, as originally solicited. With the back cover quote 'A blast of a cosmic series' – James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy.

It was one that Marvel originally used on the series back in 2015 before it was collected in Omnibus form. 'A blast of a cosmic series – can Allred finally get his due as one of the best comic artists of our time?'

And here is the back cover as printed. While Laura Allred's quote remains, James Gunn has been sent to the cornfield.

In July, Disney severed ties with Gunn over distasteful tweets in his past were weaponised against him and he was fired as director of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 film and from his role to help lead Marvel's planned "Cosmic Universe".

This decision was criticised by many, including actors, writers, directors and media outlets. And Guardians of the Galaxy cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Michael Rooker released a joint statement expressing their support for Gunn.

But it looks like the decision is extending to the pettiest of places.

The book is out in comic stores now, but will only come to bookstores in December…
