My Little Pony Hits Big For IDW

mylittleponyIn speaking with ICv2, IDW Publishing CEO Ted Adams told how the My Little Pony series has sold over 1 Million copies in less than a year since it's launch. The number includes single issues, trades and the special two-issue Scholastic Book Fair edition that included a pony. My Little Pony #1 is the best selling comic in IDW history.

Besides the Book Fair, the comics and trades are being carried in comic stores, bookstores and in Hot Topic locations where they continue to order the title. Not counted in the 1 million are digital sales, but the series is strong there taking five of the top ten titles on the Apple iBooks store.

Adams said why he thought the books were selling so well:  "It's fun; it's well done; the shows and the comics have a really good sense of humor; and the character design is great," he said.  "It's a really good product that's found an audience."

A special limited edition variant of #12 will be printed, only 12 copies and they will be used in contest and charity auctions. My Little Pony #12 will be out later this month.
