Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 11th May 2014 – Eternally Still Yours

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the "Wednesday Warriors", those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

And despite Marvel and DC launching the first issues of their big event comics, the fifth issue of Batman Eternal has topped them all, and DC saw Detective Comics and Batman/Superman beating the launch of their new weekly series. And there's a big boost for James Tynion's The Woods, its first issue beating out his mentor Scott Snyder's The Wake…

FCBD was insane and this week was mostly about recovery. Futures End and Original Sin were neck and neck here with Original Sin winning because of variants. Batman Eternal still is the top book with more and more picking it up.

Despite it being our #2 seller this week, I was expecting a better performance out of Future's End. People seem excited about Parker's return to Spider-Man. Both people who dropped the title with the start of Superior and people just wanting a good jumping on point. We'll be upping our orders on Moon Knight for sure. Even our customers who don't read Big Two superheros have been picking it up. Cyclops was the only #1 this week that was met with shrugs. While not making our top ten, The Woods was snapped up by speculators much the same way Southern Bastards was last week.

Futures End #1 had a strong start, fingers crossed that people will want to come back week after week for it. Original Sin was the top book of the week, but i have a feeling the jury is still out on if readers will stick it out for all 8 issues. The Woods didn't do great for us, but neither did Lumberjane's in its first week, but we ended up having to reorder.

It looks like DC did a good move having Futures End 0 on Free Comic Day and then the following Wednesday release Futures End 1. It has sold very well. Even beating out Batman Eternal 5 and Original Sin 1. Original Sin 1 we gave away the eyeball promo with it and still couldn't make it outsell the two DC titles. And is it just our Watcher eyes or are they all greasy? We have to pass them out with a paper towel. No joke. The Arrow T.V. show is increasing interest in the Green Arrow title. And Justice League 3000 6 is still kicking butt sales wise. I originally thought not having Maguire as the artist on the book would be a mistake but Howard Porter is at least still the regular artist for now and no replacement has been announced. Something I doubt could have been said had Maguire started the book. Deadpool vs Carnage is thriving off the star power of Deadpo! ol. Sales are very good for these last two days.

Great week in comics! Original Sin #1 sold like mad. The Watcher eyeball promotion worked very well. I had a handful of people who weren't going to pick the book up, get it just for the eyeball. Perhaps fans are ready for a cool freebie promotion that ISN'T rings. Cyclops from Rucka & company did really well too from Marvel. On the DC front, Futures End #1 sold great, right off this past weekends Free comic Book Day issue. However, anyone who didn't get their hands on that FCBD issue are left completely in the dark with issue #1, so we've been sure to ask customers if they had gotten it and if not, hooking them up with a copy. Images Nailbiter #1 was a great seller, both regular and phantom covers flying out the door. Last but not least, The Woods #1 did tremendous numbers this week. Did customers remember James Tynion IV from his past work, or were they tak! ing Scott Snyders recommendation? Not sure but either way, it sold excellent and we can't wait for the next issue!

Marvel Completely Dominated this week.  Batman titles save Dc this week and Indies just didnt have a lot of punch.  Marvel continues to expand its growth in every age bracket and Marvel Back issues are flying off the shelf.

The Woods was the top dog this week with good buzz. Original Sin did really well and since this is the first Marvel event book that i was not shorted since i have been opened it was amazing how sales will actually come into the store…imagine that. Batman Eternal is also still really strong,but that's because it is Batman.

Superior Spider-Man back-issues are still in high demand and all the Marvel Cosmic events from the 90's till present are getting gobbled up.
