Booze Geek – Black Widow Stout And Black Widow Comics

By Dylan Gonzalez

Beer: Black Widow Stout

Brewery: Cortland Beer Co.

ABV: 7.5%

71793This was another score from my trip to Rochester. The name was what really caught my eye and I was even more delighted to find it was an Imperial Stout.

Black Widow was black in color, as the name would suggest. When I poured it, it created a thin head that quickly dissipated, which surprised me for an Imperial Stout. It gave a wonderful scent that was a mixture of dark fruit and chocolate.

When I drank it, I was also very surprised by the flavors. Typically, I expect chocolate flavors to be prominent in, well, chocolate stouts. But this was an incredibly chocolate heavy Imperial Stout. There were some dark fruit flavors noticeable too, which added to the already delicious nature of the beer. A slight roastiness was also present in the finish. The carbonation was very light and it went down very smoothly.

Black Widow was an incredibly savory and smooth stout. The chocolate character made it very tasty. I would drinking this alongside dessert.

What to Drink This To:

Black_Widow_1_Preview_3Or you could drink it alongside your favorite Black Widow story. For many years, I have been a big fan of Natasha Romanova. In a universe populated by super-heroes, I always loved her grounded portrayal in contrast to the mutants and metahumans. While always a great supporting character (such as in Daredevil: Guardian Devil), I had always wished for a solid comic featuring her as the main character. My wish was granted with Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto's excellent current run on the character. Further more, she was a fantastic addition to the Captain America: The Winter Soldier cast, even though Scarlett Johansson was never granted the Russian accent that I wish made it into the MCU. So drink this beer with your favorite iteration of the Black Widow.

Dylan Gonzalez happens to love beer and comic books and luckily found a place to write about both because he has no idea how to actually make money in the real world.
