The Lion's Head Pub Of The Marvel Universe

The Lion's Head Tavern is on the corner of 109th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan. It's been open since 2002, offering "wings, beer, and sports".  You know the kind of place.

But not only can you find it in our universe, it seems to have become a favourite watering hole for the journalists of the Marvel Universe too.

The Punisher #4 saw Ben Ulrich meet up with Norah Winters at a bar that certainly looked the part.

The livery throughout the place reads Lion's Head Pub.

But it could just be a coincidence, a randomly chosen name for a bar. Except in Amazing Spider-Man #673, it appears again. Fainter signage this time, but we're given the exact street address of the venue, with Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson hanging out there after the events of Spider-Island. And the outside of the venue is the spit of the original.

Is this a piece of product placement? Not a bit of it, the owner of the bar, a comic collector, was rather surprised. In a pleasant way.

Maybe he should check just which of his regular clientele work for the House Of Ideas. But next time I'm in New York? I'm popping in.
