Will Eisner Week This Year Plans To Celebrate Graphic Novels And Freedom Of Speech

imagesMore than twenty cities including, New York, San Francisco, Cambridge, Seattle, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, London, Glasgow, and Rio de Janeiro, will come together to celebrate Will Eisner Week 2015, this coming March. Planned around the week of Eisner's March 6th birthday, the Will & Ann Eisner Family Foundation, will present a series of events with the theme of Read a Graphic Novel!

The week's events will celebrate graphic novels, sequential art, and free speech and will be presented in universities, art schools, libraries, and museums. Organizations interested in joining and holding events can download the 2015 Playbook from www.willeisner.com or you could contact them at info@willeisner.com.

Will Eisner Week Organizing Committee Chair, Danny Fingeroth spoke about what makes this year's event special by saying,

Will Eisner Week 2015 is especially meaningful because it marks the 75th anniversary of the 1940 debut of Eisner's signature creation, The Spirit, which revolutionized comics and established Will Eisner as a giant in the medium.

Known as a pioneer in the creation of comics during the "Golden Age" of the 1930s and '40s, Eisner has made a major impact on the industry, so it is truly spectacular that so many locations come together in this celebratory fashion. Will Eisner's graphic novels and textbooks are still in print in 15 worldwide languages. The prestigious Will Eisner Awards, the "Oscars of the Comics Industry," are presented at San Diego Comic-Con, every year. I can think of a hundred graphic novels that I should be reading that week.
