Van Jensen talks Six Million Dollar Man: Fall of Man #1, on sale in July from Dynamite. Covers by Ron Salas and David Ryan Robinson.

BYRON BREWER: Van, first, tell us how it feels to be writing for Dynamite.

VAN JENSON: It's a big honor. I've known of Dynamite and admired their books for years, and in my time working in comics I've had a chance to get to know some of the Dynamite team, and they're great people. It's also a reunion with Matt Idelson, who was my editor on Green Lantern Corps. He's a great guy, even if he does insist on settling all story disagreements via arm wrestling and has launched a campaign to have people call me Van "Glass Wrist" Jensen.

BB: Dynamite's last Steve Austin book was a natural continuation of the TV show, with all the iconic trappings. Tell us about this iteration of the character.

VJ: We're definitely still operating in the world of the TV series and picking up that continuity. The main focus here is that, after years of adventuring, Steve has had more and more of himself replaced by bionic parts, to the point that he's starting to fear losing his humanity entirely. He's wearied, ready for something other than running missions. The biggest problem is that OSI isn't ready to let him go.

BB: Anything additional you can tell us, non-spoilery, about the storyline?

VJ: In the first issue alone, Steve learns a game-changing secret about OSI, breaks free, fights ninjas and meets someone who holds the key to restoring his humanity. From there, it's a global adventure that sees Steve hunting down the keys to removing his cyborg parts and replacing them with cloned body parts. But these same bits of technology also are central to building cyborg soldiers, so every military around the world will be racing with Steve to claim them. It's a big, weird, super-fun story that's also going to be a little formally experimental—just wait for issue No. 3!

BB: How do you enjoy working with artist Ron Salas?

VJ: Ron is amazing! He's one of the smartest, most creative artists in the industry. He's also way too humble and super nice and just an awesome guy all around. I'm beyond thrilled to be working with him. I can't wait for everyone to see the incredible work he's doing on this book.
