2019 Gaming Review Guide: PDP Gaming Products

Throughout the year we get a ton of products to review for you, in case you have your eye on something and want an opinion on it before purchase. With it being the holidays, we thought we'd go back and look over some of the stuff that came our way from various companies who sent a ton of stuff. This guide is for all the items we got to review for PDP Gaming.

We'll start with the items they've sent for the Nintendo Switch, as they are a licensed third-party maker of their external gear. One of the hot items they had in 2019 was the Faceoff Deluxe+ Wired Controller. They released these in a few different colors such as red, blue, and black. This is basically an enhanced version of a Pro Controller with all the stuff you wish the Pro Controller came with. The front face is a camouflage pattern, with a smooth set of buttons and thumbsticks that have an indent for more comfortable gaming. It comes with a 3.5mm jack on the bottom so you can use a headset to listen to the game. Plus a pair of dual programmable buttons on the back.

If you're not into the camo pattern on the front, good news, as they have interchangeable faces and pieces. They have two for Mario, a Red M and the white star look, A Pokemon blue version, and a gold Zelda version. They're easy to put on as everything just snaps into place, so you can customize them however you see fit.

Speaking of controllers, they made a special version of the Deluxe + Audio called the Afterglow. This is a pretty awesome one that lights up and allows you to change the color based on what you feel like setting it for. There's a Wired version and a wireless version, both of which you can see here. The wired one does everything the ones above did, only you can't change out the face. The wireless one works on a Bluetooth connection, has a 20-hour rechargeable battery, and comes with Motion Controls. Just in case you feel like utilizing those in your experience.

The last of the Nintendo Switch items we got this year was the LVL 40 Wired Stereo Gaming Headset. This was made to be the ultimate gaming headset for Switch owners, as they went to the same extent they would for PC or other consoles. You have soft and breathable ear cushions that will give you several hours of gameplay. May not be the cooling gel some are used to, but it serves well. The headbar is made of the same material and rests well on the crown. You have an audio dial on the back of the left ear with 40mm audio drivers. Which comes with a bi-directional noise-canceling mic that you can mute by flipping it up. This gives you the best in-game chat possible on the Switch for titles like Fortnite. It's a small and compact design, much like the Switch, with the familiar red and blue colors to match the joy-con positions. I recommend it if you'd like to get something lightweight that matches up with the console.

While we're on the subject of headsets, the other one we received this year was the PDP Gaming LVL50 Wireless Stereo Headset. This is the top of the line brand from them for console gamers, as they made them for both the PS4 and, the version we got, the Xbox One. Everything we just said about the Switch one… magnify that by ten. 50mm HD stereo drivers, far comfier fabric and cushioning in the ears and on the head bar. A better microphone with noise-canceling and mute options, with volume control on the left ear. Add in the fact that they're wireless with a 40-foot reach This was meant to be the one-stop-shop for headsets out of the PDP Gaming line. It works really well and we have few complaints about it as they have taken a beating during angry matches and survived.

One the PS4 end of things, we only got one item from PDP which was the Ultra Slim Charge System. The PlayStation 4 controllers, of course, don't operate like others would, so you have to charge them in specific ways. This system comes with a pair of Dongles that you attach to the back, then you lay them down on the charging strip. You get a fancy little light show as they charge and then eventually an indicator that they are done. Depending on how low the battery life it, it takes anywhere between 1-2 hours for a full charge. It's a fine system, just annoying that the design has to be the way it is in order to get a proper charge. But at least it does a faster job than just using the USB port.

Finally, the awesome one we haven't been able to put down is the MARS Lightcon & IR Station. This is basically VR without the headset, as you use the camera attachment on your Xbox One to read where these special lightguns as you interact with the game on the screen. We played this a few times at conventions, but we weren't prepared for the awesomeness of playing it on a bigger HDTV. We were sent the Voyage Of The Dead starter pack, as well as a couple of codes for their other two games: Qubit's Quest and Big Buck Hunter. There's a lot of enjoyment to be had out of these, and I'd say Voyage had the most to offer as we fought with two guns trying to save a ship from zombies. Qubit's was more of a puzzle game as we tried to help a robot make their way across the map. BBH is what you would expect it to be, much like arcade games of the same nature, you hunt for deer on a giant monitor to rack up points. I highly recommend it if you want a home arcade experience as this took me back to neon lit rooms and a need to win with your friends.
