Goodbye Volcano High Gets A Trailer During PS5 Reveal Stream
We got a look at one of the few indie games shown off during the PS5 Reveal stream today as KO_OP revealed Goodbye Volcano High. This is probably one of the coolest trailers we saw of the entire bunch. A lot of the trailers were surprising to see, but this one was actually pretty awesome as it was a complete juxtapose of almost everything else they showed during the stream. Just look at it, its dinosaurs going to high school! That's an awesome trailer to throw into one of the most important gaming streams of the year. The game is a queer narrative adventure game created by a diverse team, which we have quotes from below along with more details on the game, screenshots, and the trailer! The game will be released sometime in 2021 for PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam.
Fang is a typical 18-year-old dinosaur: they're more concerned about their band going viral than they are about what happens after graduation. But when graduation is upstaged by terrible news, everything changes. Will they find time to figure themselves out? Can they balance navigating a changing world with a budding romance? During hard times, what do we owe each other? Goodbye Volcano High is a branching narrative adventure about the end of an era… and the start of a love story.
- Simple and intuitive, accessible interactions.
- Fully voice-acted cast featuring Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
- A queer narrative created by a diverse team with multiple storylines and unique endings.
- DUALSENSE Wireless Controller haptic technology creates a new kind of storytelling experience.
- Cinematic and musical minigames that blend seamlessly into the narrative.
- Make difficult choices in Fang's life to shape their identity and their future.
- Gorgeously detailed, hand-painted backgrounds at the scale of an animated film.
- Original soundtrack composed by Dabu (Winding Worlds, Dwarf Fortress) featuring Montreal musician Brigitte Naggar of Common Holly on vocals.
"Our company is a co-op in which all the voices matter. The team working on GVH is about ten people, all coming from diverse backgrounds. Making a queer game about a non-binary main character is hugely important to us," says Saleem Dabbous, Studio Director. "Partnering with PlayStation has given us the opportunity to build something of incredible production value. Everything you see in this first trailer was taken directly from the game and is playable."
"This type of game is definitely a first for KO_OP. We are creating a detailed and colorful art style that resembles an animated movie, with gorgeous hand-painted backgrounds and expressive characters that come together to create a game where every shot feels special. Our goal with the art is to bring you close to what the characters are experiencing, and allow their emotions to really shine through," says Lucie Viatge, the Art Director on the project. "We've been building an incredible team of artists for the project, and it's been really amazing to bring our vision to life."
