Konami Doesn't Know What Triggered the Metal Gear Solid 5 Secret Ending
For those of you unfamiliar with the hidden ending for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, here's a brief bit of knowledge to catch you up. When the game first launched, players found footage of an ending that they assumed was scrapped as part of the game that was cut. Konami later came out and admitted that the mystery ending was indeed achievable as long as the players met a certain objective. That objective was to have every single player who owned the game dismantle every nuclear device on their mother bases. A feat so big, it's pretty much improbably to accomplish, even with everyone trying it on a pre-planned global event. Here's the cutscene found in the PC version's code if you care to look at it.
However, on Friday, the event was triggered on PC, and Konami has no idea how it happened, as you can see from their tweets below.
You can throw all of your Kojima revenge theories out the window, as the event was probably triggered by a hacker who managed to get into the system and fool it into thinking it actually happened. Konami is currently investigating, but for now, only PC owners have been affected by the change. If they ever get an update, we'll let you know.
