A New Ending Arrives For 'OneShot'

OneShot was one of my favorite games to review in recent memory, mainly because of the fourth wall mechanics and interesting way of storytelling. It was an RPG for quirky RPG fans that didn't shy away from making you think outside the box. And it all came from a title made on the old-school RPG Maker. But one of the gripes people had about a game that was very meta was the ending, which in itself was super meta. We're going to get into spoilers so if you don't want to know more, you should walk away now.

You good? Okay! In the original ending after you finally get the sun to the tower and help out the land of robots below, you'd get a mysterious note from a guy called "The Author" who told you that you could come back and play the game as much as you'd like, but there's something specific he'd like to change that would "take a while." And every subsequent playthrough you come across a building with a door and a countdown clock. No one knew what the hell it was, so of course, people went through the game looking for something to help, both as a playthrough and by combing through the files for a clue. No one could find anything because, according to the developer, there was nothing to find.

Last week, a patch finally dropped on the game and gave people what they were hoping for: an alternative ending. The bonus chapter called "Solstice" has a new note from The Author about the door with the clock. If you go through the door, you'll be able to start again, this time with an entirely different plot and ending to the game. We have yet to try it, but that sounds pretty awesome to us as a way to get more out of such a simple and cool title. Now we gotta go find Niko and help them find out what the hell is really going on, though I hope she's not mad I've had the game off for weeks.
