Nintendo CEO Wants to Sell Another 20 Million Switches Next Year
Tatsumi Kimishima has expressed the desire to sell 20 million more Nintendo Switches in the next fiscal year.
In an interview with Kyoto Shimbun (via Gadget 360), the CEO of Nintendo expressed his high hopes for the console going into its second fiscal year. This would be April 2018-March 2019. To put it into perspective, in December it was announced that the console had sold 10 million consoles globally. The fiscal year still has a few months to run, but doubling its sales might seem a little much over the next three months. This is definitely projecting more sales in the console's second year.
Kimishima said:
"We are seeing momentum beyond our expectations. People have accepted the unique game experience that you cannot find anywhere else, where you can take it outside while also using it as a household console. In some countries, the pace is beyond what we saw with Wii."
The Nintendo Switch really has been a pretty big hit for Nintendo. I think many expected it to do well, but to do this well really would have been pushing even extreme expectations. The software has been there, too, and it really has been a roaring comeback for Nintendo. I could definitely see them meeting this target.
