Something's Fishy: Today Is Finneon Spotlight Hour In Pokémon GO

Today, Tuesday, April 27th from 6 PM – 7 PM local time is Finneon Spotlight Hour in Pokémon GO. During this weekly event, the Spotlight Pokémon will essentially flood the game, appearing all over the map and even popping up in normally inactive spawn points. In addition to wild spawns, Finneon will respond more frequently to Incense and lures. Here is a breakdown of this week's Spotlight Hour features, including the weekly bonus, and tips on how to take advantage of this flood of Finneon.

Now, first, we answer the most asked question of every Spotlight Hour. Will the focus Pokémon be Shiny? Unfortunately, Shiny Finneon has not yet been released in Pokémon GO. Personally, while it of course adds incentive when the featured species is Shiny-capable, I think this one is still very much worth playing. Finneon is a rather uncommon spawn and seems to be getting even more uncommon as more generations roll out in Pokémon GO. If you're lacking the Finneon Candy to evolve this little friendly fish up into Lumineon, this hour is essentially a guaranteed success for you.

Now, the weekly bonus this time around is very useful for those attempting to level up now that Levels 41 – 50 have been released in Pokémon GO. We have an hour of double Catch XP. Here are our tips on taking advantage of all these features:

  • Throw on two Lucky Eggs and an Incense at the start of the hour.
  • If you are on foot, head to a central area dense with Pokéstops like a park or a downtown location. Lure up and get to catching.
  • If you are in a car, parking lots are great. Just be sure to not play and drive. Parking in a spot, catching everything around, and moving to the next spot to repeat can be quite effective.
  • Utilize the Quick Catch Method to maximize the number of Finneon you able to encounter within the hour.
