Symbar – Mother of Darkness from Free League LIVE on Kickstarter
The epic fantasy role playing setting Symbar is getting a new book, this time as the first official release since Swedish game publisher Järnringen merged with the fine folks at Free League Publishing in 2018.
'SYMBAR – MOTHER OF DARKNESS' is the fourth episode in the Chronicle of the Throne of Thorns. The approximately 200 page book is a standalone sequel to Thistle Hold – Wrath of the Warden, Karvosti – The Witch Hammer and Yndaros – The Darkest Star, and will be followed by two more episodes.
Symbar hit the gaming world in 2014, with an English edition coming through Modiphius a year later. The game setting has since earned thousands of loyal players, largely due to its highly original, evocative art, and the incredibly rich game world.
Enter the vast Forest of Davokar on a hunt for treasure, lost wisdom and fame. It's time to explore the heart of the ancient forest. "Mother of Darkness" is what the witches of the barbarian clans call the ruined city of Symbar, once the capital of the empire of Symbaroum. It has long been lost, but just recently its position has been pinpointed, triggering a rush of competing factions mounting expeditions in the hope of arriving there first. The journey will be long, the rivalry fierce and bloody, and none of the competitors truly know what to expect if they manage to reach the ruins alive.
What makes Free League different? I can say first hand that they put out incredible games. They're the brain trust behind modern classics like Tales From the Loop, Coriolis, Mutant: Year Zero, and most recently, the astonishingly great Forbidden Lands. These games look fantastic, play great, and are built to last.
The best way to get into Symbar (if you haven't already jumped in) is through the Kickstarter campaign, which has some great options for building the perfect gaming package!
