THQ Nordic Has Bought Saint's Row and Metro Publisher

THQ Nordic has purchased publisher Koch Media and subsequently Deep Silver, the owners of Saint's Row, Metro and Dead Island.

THQ Nordic started small. In the wake of THQ's collapse, they bought up several franchises like Darksiders as well as the rights to the company itself. They were a small company then, and it wasn't clear the kind of scale the company would be operating on. Since then, it's put out several smaller games but has an exciting lineup on the horizon with Darksiders III and the promising looking Biomutant.

Well, their slate just got very interesting indeed and they're starting to feel quite a bit more like the company of old. The company has reportedly just bought Koch Media, who own publisher Deep Silver, for $121 Million. This means THQ Nordic now own all the franchises under that umbrella including Saint's Row, Metro and Dead Island. For those who have forgotten, both Saint's Row and Metro were old THQ properties, bringing the franchises home somewhat. With those alongside the Darksiders brand, it really is beginning to look like the old publisher is back.

This feels like a huge step forward for the publisher, who now feel like a bigger player in the market. They are getting a few titles to publish right off the bat too, including the upcoming Metro: Exodus and what ever Saint's Row developer Volition is wokring on. In a statement, Lars Wingefors, CEO of Nordic said:

THQ Nordic is convinced that the development studios of Deep Silver as part of THQ Nordic will successfully deliver at least four ongoing AAA game projects including Metro Exodus as well as the next Volition Studio AAA release and the next Dambuster Studio AAA release, together with a number of other game development and publishing titles

It's cool to have a big healthy THQ back. Hopefully we will start to see their size and worth being thrown around in the coming year or two.
