EA Can't Mess With The Canon Of Star Wars: Battlefront Perhaps Explaining Absence Of The Force Awakens

Star-Wars-Battlefront-_4-17_A.0

One of the things many people expected to see from Star Wars: Battlefront DLC was The Force Awakens, perhaps even Prequel content. Sadly, that's been revealed to not be the case. It seems like money on the table though, so it seems a bizarre choice not to utilize.

We might have a reason for why it is the case now though. In a recent investor call (via VideoGamer) it was said by EA that the reason that we won't see that content is because Disney don't want the games messing around with the canon, and as Battlefront fixates on the original trilogy, 30 years before The Force Awakens, we won't see it mixing.

CFO Blake Jorgensen said:

On Star Wars, the one thing that we are adhering to, and I think this is part of our arrangement with Lucas and Disney, is you can't make a game in Star Wars that violates the canon of Star Wars.

Of course, I fully expect to see The Force Awakens content in the next game whenever it comes. It is a shame that DICE couldn't go a little wild with this, but hey, I understand Disney keeping a short leash on the franchise at the moment though.
