Goodnight Sweet Prince: The Xbox 360 Has Been Discontinued
I owe a lot to the Xbox 360. I might not even be where I am today without it. The online play, the library, it did a lot to that reignited my passion for gaming in a big way.
It's been announced though by Xbox head Phil Spencer today on Xbox Wire that the Xbox 360 is going to be discontinued today, with production already ceasing. The console launched in late 2005 and sold 84 million at last count in 2014.
The console made Microsoft the massive hitter it is today in the market, really giving Sony a true competitor on its own terms. It also was home to some of the best video games last generation, and with its Summer of Arcade program, may well have ignited the Indie scene as we know it today. Sad to see it go, but with units still out there, you could always pick one up pretty easy.
Still, end of an era. Thank Xbox 360.
