Here's Why Some Games Like Red Dead Redemption Aren't Backwards Compatable On Xbox One Yet
Adam Cook writes for Bleeding Cool…
Microsoft are (rightly) making a lot of noise about backwards compatibility coming to the Xbox One, but there are a lot of huge, popular games missing still. Usually it'd be because there's a HD remake available, which seems obvious.
But Red Dead Redemption is one of Rockstar's most beloved games, and it's curiously absent from the list, though at least we now know why – sort of.
Microsoft engineer Richard Irving told Eurogamer (via GameSpot):
As you can imagine, publishers have cut very specific deals on some of that content. For example Madden–you can imagine how many licenses go into a game with the players, the NFL, sponsors, and so on. And there's over 1000 games at this point on Xbox 360.
That's all well and good, but where's Red Dead?
We're definitely engaged with all of our publisher and developer partners–including Rockstar–on when and how we can [deliver] on that fan feedback.
So it's all about licensing then, who knew…
