SDCC '15: The Coalition Explain Why The Rest Of The Gears Of War Franchise Isn't Getting Remastered
The Halo: Master Chief Collection was a pretty wild proposition. In one fell swoop, Microsoft updated their most prestigious franchise for the Xbox One, with every game getting some level of treatment to make it better than it originally was. Halo 2 itself saw a complete makeover, brining it into the new generation in style..
So why is only one Gears of War game seeing the Xbox One treatment? It's been the biggest issue surrounding Gears of War: Ultimate Edition thus far that I've seen. At SDCC (via Gamespot), developer The Coaltion finally opened up to it. One developer explained:
It's really hard work [to remaster an entire series]. It takes a long time. It took us in the end 16-18 months to do the first one, and to try and do three games… How many people would we need to have? It just wasn't logistically or physically or technically possible. For us it was really about what can we do, what can we focus on.
Honestly, after seeing the amount of work put into this version, I buy it. The thing that people are disregarding about Halo: The Master Chief Collection is that that thing was a mess. I'm sure Microsoft are being very careful not to let fans down again, so biting off just the right amount is probably a smart move for everybody.
