Splatoon Has Sold 1. 6 Million Copies
Splatoon has been the biggest new IP from Nintendo that I can remember in a while. It absolutely specialises in fun, colour, strategy and has a pretty surreal edge to boot. It absolutely is one of the best new franchises this year.
And the sales reflect that. In an earnings report (via Gamespot), Nintendo have revealed that the franchise has sold 1.62 million copies, with a staggering 490,000 coming from Japan. In the report it is stated:
With respect to Wii U, Splatoon, which was released globally in May and gathered attention, marked 1.62 million units in sales and contributed to vitalizing the Wii U platform.
This is probably a good indicator that we will see a lot more Splatoon in the future. Nintendo now have this new franchise to fall back on, and I'm very excited to see what happens with it going forward.
