Techland Producer Would Take On Dead Island 2 If Asked
Techland invented the Dead Island series a few years ago, but left their baby to go make sleeper hit Dying Light, instead of taking on Dead Island 2. The latter, which continued production without Techland, hasn't gone so well for publisher Deep Silver though. Developer Yager have recently been taken off the project, leaving the game with out a developer and in a bit of a mess.
interestingly though, Techland producer Tymon Smektala told VideoGamer at Gamescom, that he would love to save the project if Deep Silver saw fit. In an interview, he said quite candidly:
I personally would love to go back to Dead Island because I really love that game. I don't know if there is a developer [attached to Dead Island 2] at all.
When asked specifically if he'd go back to Dead Island 2, he said:
I would. As I said, I love Dead Island and I think there is a place for both franchises [referencing Dyling Light] to strive in the market. As long as someone would be able to find something that would make them different, that would draw a clear line, 'Okay, here's Dead Island, here's Dying Light', and I think that's doable, then why not?
Well, I'd bet that quote has probably, at the very least, got a few phone calls and emails going. Techland have a hell of a bargaining chip though, what with being the creator of the series and having recently knocked it out the park with Dying Light. In fact, I wonder if that prices out the developer off the bat.
