Visiting With North Star Games at PAX East 2019
During our time at PAX East this year, we paid a visit to our friends over at North Star Games to see what new games they had on the way. These guys are always cool and happy to see us, so the demos we get are very hands-on and in-depth for board games, even though a lot of their games are easy to learn and fun to play. The first we got to check out was Oceans, which if you've ever played Evolution (another game they make) then you already know the basics of Oceans. It's just set in the sea with a lot more dangerous creatures and different ways to evolve your deep dark creatures than the first. Some of the things you can do in this game are insane and will make you freak out as to what you can create.
The other game we checked out was The Quacks in Quedlinburg, which was described to me as having Harry Potter battles with magic. This is a 2-4 player game where you build up your cauldron of magic to cast spells and purchase other spells against players in the game to essentially become the best wizard of the bunch. We only played a couple rounds of it but it looks intriguing and can be a lot of fun. Especially if you are a Potter fan and would like to have a game that is essentially you casting spells on other wizards in battle.
It appears Oceans is track for a 2019 release and already has a Kickstarter campaign for it. Meanwhile, The Quacks in Quedlinburg is sold out for now. We're stoked to receive these and review them as soon as we can, so keep an eye out for both.
