Wyrd Announces Open Beta for Malifaux 3rd Edition!

Here's your chance to help guide a miniatures game to greatness! Wyrd Games just announced that play-testing for the third edition of Malifaux is about to go into open beta testing!

We're thrilled to announce that on Wednesday, January 16th, we will be launching an OPEN BETA for Malifaux Third Edition!

Many of you have gone through the grueling process of testing the game to get its rules and models to this point, and we couldn't possibly thank you enough for that. Rest assured that the vast majority of that work will remain intact.

The intent of the Open Beta is to get Malifaux Third Edition from where it is (a great spot) and bring it up one more level (to a fantastic spot). This means that our focus will be on polish. Clarity, grammar, theme, and fine tuning numbers are our targets this time around.

Malifaux combines a cool steampunk vibe to a wild west sensibility, with crews of fortune hunters facing off against each other in a twisted landscape, filled with monsters and horrors beyond description. The game employs a unique card mechanic instead of dice, with players utilizing their best hand of cards as they try to defeat their opponents; it's like poker, but with 30 times more rules, and cool miniatures.

The new edition of Malifaux promises new miniatures, brand new artwork, and a revamp of some of the rules:

An Enhanced (and not so Desolate) Engine: The core of Malifaux hasn't been replaced; it's been optimized. Those strange quirks and questions that wrinkled our encounters have been ironed out for a more streamlined game experience without cutting away the layers of strategic decision-making we've all grown to love.
Gameplay Firing on All Cylinders: With adjusted Deployment Zones, increased threat ranges, and more mobility options, your models will be getting into the action nearly as quickly as you can put them onto the table.
Lightening the Load: Ever eat one too many slices of cake and get that satisfied-but-bloated feeling? Well, we want our cake and will eat it, too. In addition to reducing the number of Conditions, we also cut down on the excess of Actions, Abilities, and Triggers to make sure the focus is on the fun and not on the memorization.

Best of all? The new game rules will be available free of charge from Wyrd's website at release, and players with existing crews will find updated stat cards available as well. So, you can play the new edition with no out of pocket expense, but knowing Wyrd's track record with cool art and models, there will be plenty of great new products demanding quality time with your wallet.
