Bradley Walsh Rumored For Next Doctor Who Companion

A new casting rumor making the rounds says showrunner Chris Chibnall has found a new companion for Jodie Whittaker's DoctorBradley Walsh.

The Mirror is a British tabloid which, up until recently, consisted as far as we can tell of nothing but rumors, or "rumours" as they say, about Peter Capaldi and Stephen Moffat leaving Doctor Who. The Mirror has seemingly been running stories about Capaldi and Moffat leaving Doctor Who since its founding in 1903, over 100 years before Capaldi would join the show, and more than 50 years before the show was even invented.

When both Moffat and Capaldi were confirmed to exit with the 2017 season, it was a bittersweet moment for the paper. On the one hand, they had predicted it so often, it eventually came true. On the other hand, you can't very well keep publishing clickbait stories speculating on whether Peter Capaldi and Stephen Moffat will leave Doctor Who if they're actually leaving.

But it's a new era for The Mirror. The departure of Moffat and Capaldi meant a new round of speculation on their replacements, and when Chibnall and Whittaker were finally named, that left a companion to sort out. And according to The Mirror, they know just who it's going to be: soap opera star and game show host Bradley Walsh.

The 57-year-old Walsh is famous for his roles in Coronation Street, Law and Order UK (where Chibnall was lead writer), and as the host, or presenter as they call them over there, of game shows, or quiz shows as they call them over there, such as The Chase and Cash Trapped. It's not Walsh's first foray into the Doctor Who universe. He previously played a villain on an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. And now, if this rumor is to believed, he'll play the next sidekick, or companion as they call them over there, on Doctor Who.

Can the rumor be believed? Maybe, and maybe not. The Mirror takes a "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" approach to rumormongering, something we can totally respect. And if it does turn out to be true, The Mirror will be able to say "told you so," or, as they say over there, "pip pip."
