Brexit Could Be A Positive Thing For Hollywood
Since the vote hit, there has been a lot of negative response to the Brexit (Britain leaving the European Union) and that has lead to the British Pound plummeting against the U.S. Dollar and other foreign currency. But this could be a blessing for Hollywood studios that want to film in the U.K.
Pinewood Group CEO, Ivan Dunleavy, said, "In the context of our business, the decline in the pound sterling exchange rate is undoubtedly positive for our international customers. We will continue to monitor sentiment around the issue going forward."
He was speaking as the group announced a 51.6% increase in profits for last fiscal year (that ended March 31st). The company which has studios in the U.K., Canada, Malaysia, the Dominican Republic and Atlanta, is doing well with Disney, Marvel, Warner Bros, Paramount and Syfy Channel. But the results of the recent vote will make international studios money go further when filming in the U.K. which should bring even more business to the company.
Pinewood is also in the process of expanding both the South Buckinghamshire and Atlanta locations.
