From Marvel to DC: Djimon Hounsou Will Appear in Shazam!

While yes, filming on the Warner Bros. DC Comics film Shazam! has completed, it would appear a bit of casting news had gone under the radar 'til now.

From Marvel to DC: Djimon Hounsou Will Appear in Shazam!

Djimon Hounsou is going from Kree warrior in Guardians of the Galaxy to a 3,000 year old wizard in Shazam!, specifically, the one who gives young Billy Batson his god-like powers, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.

There is very little known about the film, other than the basics: Zachary Levi is playing the powered up version of the main character (Shazam), and Angel Asher will be playing the 14-year-old version of Billy.

We do know the film has a pretty impressive inclusive cast — Jack Dylan Grazer (It) as Billy's best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary played by Grace Fulton (Annabelle: Creation); Darla, played by Faithe Herman (This is Us); Eugene, played by Ian Chen (Fresh Off the Boat); and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand (TV's Hawaii Five-O). Cooper Andrews (The Walking Dead) and Marta Milans (Killer Women) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez. Mark Strong is also on board, we just don't know who he's playing yet.

We're hoping for some official photos, footage, maybe even a teaser during this year's Warner Bros. Entertainment panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC).

Shazam! is expected to hit theaters on April 5th, 2019.
